Fender Stratocaster STR-85R (Made in Japan, 1987 - 88)
Rare late-’80s Fujigen-built model that predates the US Strat Plus, featuring one of the first factory sets of Fender Lace Sensor pickups. It has a basswood body, maple neck with rosewood board, Gotoh tuners, and a two-point pivot tremolo. Finished in translucent black with white guard, this short-run domestic model marks an important step in Fender’s evolution.
Collector’s note: The STR-85R series is considered a direct predecessor to the American Strat Plus, sharing its pickup design and modern hardware layout more than a year before US production adopted them.
